BLOCK THE BUNKER

Fuck the Bunker

We envision a world where arming our state sanctioned killing agents with an $149 million dollar bunker is absolutely ludicrous.  Just the thought would be so twisted to most people.  Unfortunately, we do not live in the world today.  In fact, we live in a world where the "official representatives" of Seattle have approved 7-1 the passing of a a resolution with some amendments opening up the cost negotiated.

Yet, as Black folks residing in Seattle, we will not stand for this.  Our relationship with the police is only that of trauma.  To even hear the sound of a siren going off in the neighborhood is often triggering to those that live among us.

Through a coalition of anti-racist forces from around Seattle, folks have come together to demand the city of Seattle to:

1) NO TO BUILDING A POLICE BUNKER

This is proposed to be the nation’s most expensive police precinct ($149 million) [1]. Rather than further militarizing the police force with this bomb-proof police bunker, Seattle can provide leadership in real community solutions.

2) NO TO HIRING NEW POLICE OFFICERS

The Mayor has committed to hiring 200 new police officers [2]. We believe that real safety for our communities requires housing justice, dignified jobs, and non-punitive services – not more police.

3) NO TO BUILDING A YOUTH JAIL

Communities have fought long and hard to post-pone the construction of a new juvenile detention center (costing $210 million) [3]. As the City Council unanimously passed a resolution for zero-detention for youth, let’s hold the City accountable to this vision by making sure the youth jail is never built.

Through grassroots organizing, solidarity across communities, and bold collective action we can make this vision a reality.
